WELCOME!

This is just a short presentation of me and my research. If you are interested in more information, please do not hesitate to send a mail. Currently, I am lecturing full time at Malmö University, Faculty of health and society,  in Disability and Rehabilitation Research. Parts of my lecturing takes place on the Bachelor Programme in Social Work Focusing Disability and Aging.

One major research area of interest is assistive devices. Mainly, this concerns light-weight rigid-frame active wheelchairs and upper limb prostheses. Assistive devices can be  seen from a social perspective, i.e. how the presence of an assistive device and a disability can affect interaction. In turn, interactional experiences are influencing the habitus (and thus also the social tactics) of the person using, or not using, the device, as well as how the device is actually utilised. One factor in this recurring process is the useworthiness of the device, i.e. whether the device fulfils the (behavioural) needs of the user. Needs can be seen as ‘something bad for the person to be without’ (von Wright’s definition), and form a basis of motivation on different levels of the Maslow hierarchy of needs. Needs and motivation can exist as strategic, operational, and tactic phenomena (or: macro-, meso- and micro-levels, respectively), i.e. from the length of a life course perspective to the shortest action of an activity.
